Capita Data Breach Compensation: Can I Claim?

In March, the largest UK outsourcing services company, Capita, was hit by a cyber attack, which caused widespread disruption. Subsequently, around 90 organisations filed data breach reports to the ICO (Information Commissioner’s Office), with tens of thousands of people now being notified their data has been breached.

Following the cyber attack, just two months later, in May, Capita filed a second data breach. The ICO said in a statement that the second breach “emerged in May when it was reported that the firm had left their benefits data fields in publicly accessible storage, prompting several councils to say they thought their data had been compromised.”

What do I do if I have been notified of my data being breached?

If your personal information has been exposed in the Capita data breach, you may be eligible to make a Capita data breach compensation claim.

Organisations have a legal duty to securely store and process information they hold about individuals. If this personal information is breached, GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) grants you the right to submit a compensation claim for any distress or loss caused.

At Barings Law, we understand how stressful it can be to deal with a data breach, especially when it comes to the potential of it ending up for sale on the dark web for the use of fraudulent activity. Our dedicated team of data breach legal experts have extensive experience handling cases involving data breaches. Our years of expertise grant us the opportunity to represent our clients to the highest standards.

Barings Law has already started legal proceedings against Capita for the breach of personal information. We are conducting a thorough investigation into the breaches and reviewing important evidence that our claimants are providing us with.

It is quick and easy to start your Capita data breach compensation claim with Barings Law.  All you have to do is submit a quick form with an upload of your notification of breach letter or email (if you do not have it to hand, you can submit this as soon as possible to one of our legal experts).

From there, our data breach legal team will review your eligibility and proceed with gathering further evidence and informing you of the process.
