Barings Law is a busy multi-disciplinary legal practice based in Manchester city centre.

We provide a professional, personalised service for private and commercial clients and we are building a reputation as one of the city’s leading law firms.

With the combined areas of specialism offered by our representatives, Barings Law is qualified to provide high-quality legal advice and guidance for consumers and corporate clients.

Our areas of practice include, but are not limited to, cases of financial mis-selling, business interruption insurance, personal injury, consumer rights and group litigation, data breaches, commercial litigation, bankruptcy and winding-up petitions.

Due to a period of unprecedented expansion, we are looking to recruit a paralegal for our team, based at our Manchester head office.

Your new role will see you handle Business Energy Claims or Undisclosed Commissions cases which are like PPI/Plevin Claims. Ideally, you will have gained experience in the area of financial mis-selling and be eager to take on more responsibility and progress in your career. You will work closely with supervisors and partners within the firm on the cases, whilst being a good team player.

Skills

  • A law degree (LLB, MSc)
  • Proven, demonstrable experience as a Paralegal
  • The ability to establish priorities and work under pressure to meet critical deadlines
  •  Excellent organisational skills and a flexible approach to the working environment
  • Strong writing and communication skills
  • The motivation to work alone and collaborate as part of a team
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with a friendly, outgoing manner
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and applications such as Word and Excel
  • Ability to maintain stringent attention to detail when working with large volumes of data

Desirable but not essential:

  • One year’s relevant experience in a paralegal role
  • Experience in file handling and managing legal caseloads
  • Experience in, and knowledge of, instances of financial mis-sellin

Accountabilities.

  • Conducting pre-claim investigations, legal research and initial case assessments
  • Drafting and editing client correspondence
  • Dealing with queries from clients, defendants’ legal representative(s) and other third parties in person, electronically or via telephone
  • Drafting pleadings and other court documents, including trial submissions and instruction to Counsel
  • Proofreading legal documents
  • Performing administrative duties on assigned claims (organising calendars, court hearings and case files as well as managing logistics and maintaining records on CRM)
  • Engaging in alternative dispute resolutions, mediations and settlement negotiations
  • Attending trials and other hearings with Counsel
  • Supporting solicitors and other team leaders by carrying out a range of legal tasks
  • Undertaking administrative tasks to ensure effective collaboration across the business
